Most of the material in this review will appear in a future version of Chapter Eight of the org theory book, and most of the rest in other chapters. Introduction Most of the objectionable features of rule by MBAs that I discussed in Chapter Eight ("Managerialism: Irrationality and
Here she is.. at last! Here she is.. at last! Labels: Domestic Woes , Singapore Stories I have been a very lazy girl and have been feeling so guilty about that I couldn't wait till the end of this post before I confessed (that was the original plan though). I have been away for way too long from the blog and the Internet that I feel like I can't get back that simple. I feel like I can't just make a grand comeback with a silly post that spoke about the past month or with the use of some wit and humour which

Monday is it? We had a busy weekend - guests and lots of going out. I nailed down some things while walking in the backyard today. Nailed 'em down in my head, realized why I get frustrated about some of the things I get frustrated about. I'm learning to relax about a few of those and assert myself over the others. The times I choose to not assert myself leave me gristling inside, no good for anyone. Our babe is mellow and I hate even to type that. However, she "cluster feeds" in the evenings and the family h
Columbian Group to Begin Sugarcane Ethanol Production in the US Miami Herald. The Columbia-based Inverandino business group is poised to begin production of sugarcane ethanol in Louisiana by the middle of next year. According to projections from Louisiana Green Fuels (LGF), the holding company that is advancing the project, the sugarcane ethanol operations will produce 100 million gallons of ethanol within five years. For the past two years, and in a very discrete manner, the Inverandino business group, controlled by the Santacoloma family of Colombia, ha
Special Guest Post: kaija of paperiaarre Hello from the hot and summery Turku (that’s in Finland, just so you know)! All this heat is slowly melting my brain and the best way to spend an evening in such condition is to sit down and start thinking. I don’t mean just letting random thoughts roam around in my head, but thinking about things that matter. I’m so honored to be Poppytalk’s special guest this week, and I promise I’m going to try and write about things that matter: inspiration, details and friendship. All those things near a
To Fix Radio, Fire the Boss By Jerry Del Colliano Tribune owner Sam Zell has declared newspapers dead. In fact he reportedly memoed Tribune staffers recently "What has become clear as we have gotten intimately familiar with the business is that the model for newspapers no longer works". So Zell’s COO, Randy Michaels, is looking to apply the now too familiar tactics that radio has used to shoot itself in the foot. Cutbacks. Fewer employees. Fewer news pages. That means instead of publishing more news pages than ad pa
Couple Of Meme...Two By Two and Won't Give Up. I was invited by Hollowing Hills to do meme called What Won’t You Give Up Then over at Saoirse Daily 2 she did a meme called Called Two By Two I’ll be starting off the one over at Hollowling Hills. What won’t I give up and Why. 1. Tooth brush…I see quite a few people in this area that are toothless and few of I talk to they admit to pour teeth hygiene, never brushed their teeth. Some admit doing to much meth and couldn’t afford going to the dentist. It my be pride but I have a hang up
For Guido, who never heard of resilience. This post was prompted, a few months ago, by a return to a place in Italy where I lived between 1988 and 1990. I was returning for the funeral of a very dear friend of mine. I hadn’t been there in the intervening years, and much had changed. While I was there, I came across this photo, of an 18 year old me (left), and my friend Dan, standing in the farmyard of this extraordinary man, Guido Vannini (centre). Seeing the changes to the place I had known so well, and being reminded of Guido, pro
FAQ: The Obama Energy Plan Now that the Democratic Party has a presumptive nominee, it’s time to take a closer look at Sen. Barack Obama’s energy plan and how he intends to use the office of the president to accelerate our transition to a greener economy. We profiled Sen. John McCain’s energy plan earlier, and since energy will almost certainly not get as much debate time as Iraq, health care or the economy, we encourage you to compare McCain’s and Obama’s plans and comment below. (The Wall Street Journal has an interes
Healthy Plants Whats Wrong? Master Kush! Pics My plants look fine, leaves look green no yellowing. My medium is rockwool cubes, I water 1x every 2 days ( I felt the pot and its still heavy with water). Ph 5.8 PPm-750 But my leaves are very droopy. What do you guys think the problem is?
21-leaf clover A 21-leaf clover discovered on June 3 by Iwate prefecture farmer Shigeo Obara has shattered the Guinness world record for most leaves on a clover stem (Trifolium repens L.). The current official record is held by an 18-leaf clover that Obara found in his garden in May 2002. The record-breaking clover’s 21 leaves each measure about 1 centimeter long and overlap each other like rose petals on a 3-centimeter stem. Obara, a former food crop researcher, has been conducting independent research
Cooltube Proximity to Foliage Hey Everybody, Well for the past couple days when I should have been studying for finals, I instead thought up some crazy grow cabinet scheme for my next grow this fall. So pretty it would be a Vertical Cool Tube in the center of a cabinet, being vented from a Soler & Palau TD-200X putting 508 cfms just through the cooltube and about 5 feet of metal ducting, and straight up through the top of the cabinet and back out into the room. Surrounded by the Cool tube would be these GrowWall
English weather, a sweet spot and escape from the garden. 1. It is a day of tight hard shadows and strong light. I think it's too near noon for walking up the hill, but I need my half of the book for proofreading. The light is hot and bright, but the air is cool, which makes me glad to be in England. 2. I hear music from Oli's yard. He is sitting in the half-shade with a jug of juice and his guitar. 3. A fence on a brick wall divides the dust and roar of the road from someone's home. At eye height, a row of tiny strawberry plants has crept under the
Timeline of the decline of the human race 2,000,000 BC: fire discovered. 1874: Othmar Zeidler synthesizes DDT. 1934: Enrico Fermi and colleagues split the atom. 2008: Mig discovers ebay. This weekend we celebrated father's day in Austria. I tried to spend quality time with my family, when I wasn't checking ebay for deals on an electric cello, and maybe a musical saw. Beta gave me tasty cookies, Gamma tasty ice cream, and we went out to a Mongolian barbecue that is new in town. The food is not bad at the Mongolian place, but I questio
If you've got a squawbush, make lemonade There! I've said it. In case you wondered, the term squawbush is currently not PC. You will not see the term in any modern botanical key, though when we first came to these parts, it was the common name and I have several wildflower handbooks that use the word. My complaint is that in expunging the word from the common vocabulary, a link to the past is deliberately obliterated and only the annointed are allowed to make a connection between great grandma's healing formula using the forbidden word
Nibbles: Medicinal rice, Dairy Red rice extract prevents heart problems. Got milk?
Baeder Bing: Sommerbad Olympia Stadion I'm not sure how much 'ruin value' Speer would see in the old Olympic pool. The lining of the pools themselves have been replaced and modernised, but the colonnades which surround it are crumbling, with steel girders bolted here and there, and incongruous patches of green tiling added at random. The limestone has weathered – it might be bullet damage but I don't think the pool was too trashed by the Red Army in '45 – and there are plants growing in some of its pockmarks. One had been half-Spack
Eat Dessert First I keep having the mistaken idea that someday I'll "catch up". Like, catch up on my reading, or catch up on paying off the credit card bill, or catch up on the housework. Now, it doesn't bother me much when it's a pile of laundry that doesn't make it to the wash. After all, it's not going anywhere, and chances are I've got other clothes to wear. But when it comes to paying bills - now that bothers me. I grew up knowing that "debt" was a four letter word, and I can't stand it when I can't pay off
